Who we are
- Joe and Jane Proia with our friend Marc Richard live here in Uxbridge with many dogs, birds, goats, and numerous motorcycles
- Ironstone is a home-based, officially formed, S-corporation
What do we do
- Our primary operation is based on our contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to provide MSF-certified rider education courses throughout the state
- We organize tours in Europe, Africa, and New Zealand
- We raise and sell upland game birds (pheasant and chukar partridge) for sport and pleasure.
- We maintain a hunting reserve in Douglas MA - Click here for LadyWoods Game Preserve..
- We maintain a kennel of Gordon Setters (2) and English Setters (4) for hunting, breeding, and companionship
- We groom and board dogs, primarily of our own breedings
- We raise Shetland sheep for fleece and Nubian goats for milk and dairy products at our Farm at Ladywoods. Our farm includes Llamas and miniature donkey for predator protection
Some facts about Ironstone
- Joe has been riding for about 40 yrs. Presently rides a 2003 Yamaha FJR1300 and owns numerous current model Triumphs
- Joe was certified as a K-12 teacher in 1976 and a MSF-certified instructor in 1982
- Joe has taught MSF courses in MA, RI, and NY
- Joe holds a B.S. in Education and a M.Ed in Industrial Education with significant coursework and experience in Special Education
- Since becoming a MSF-certified instructor Joe has trained about 50,000 riders;
- Since 1994 Ironstone has trained about 30,000 riders
- Ironstone trained about 2600 riders in 2006!
This represents about 30% of the entire population trained by the State (MREP) program!!!!!
- Joe has ridden through most of Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Czech Repulic; South Africa, from Jo'berg to Cape Town, including Kreuger National, Umfalozzi Reserve, and Swaziland; and the north and south islands of New Zealand.
